How much does an author visit cost?
You may choose from two options:

1. The visit is free of charge.  The author is compensated by book sales promoted by the school.
2. Pay for author visit. Half day program for $500.00. Full day program for $800.00.

How can I contact the author?
You may contact the author via email or by completing the Visit Request form.  The author is
also available by phone at your request.

Can I call to book an author visit?
Please submit your request via email or the online form. Once I receive your request, I will
contact you as promptly as possible.  I am happy to make arrangements by telephone if you
prefer.

Can I mail in the Request an Author Visit form?
Yes. You can print the completed form using your browser's print button.  Please email Lena
Barker for the mailing address.  Remember to keep a copy for your files.

What happens after I submit my request?
As soon as I receive your request form, I will attempt to schedule a visit for your date of
preference.  If that date and/or time is booked, we will work together to find a date and time that
will work for all parties.  I will then contact you to discuss the details of the visit.  You will receive
an author visit packet two weeks prior to the visit.

What if the date I want isn't available?
It is important to schedule your author visit as far in advance as possible.  Doing so will help to
ensure that your preferred date is available.  If the date you request is not available, I will work
with you to find a date that will work for all parties.  To allow ample time for me to send you the
author visit packet, order forms to be distributed, students to return forms, and teachers to read
the book to the students, booking at least three weeks in advance is highly recommended.

What is an "author visit packet"?
The author visit packet contains the information and materials you will need to organize a
successful visit.  The packet includes:

  • a complimentary copy of The Amazing Earth Wildlife
  • a complimentary copy of the You're Amazing book bag
  • order forms
  • poster (for copying and distribution)
  • Tips for Success checklist

How can I order books prior to the author visit?
You can order directly through this site, or contact me via email.

What are the school's responsibilities?
The school should have one faculty member as a point of contact.  This person will be
responsible for distribution and collection of order forms and posters, preparing the
presentation room including having orders in the room ready for signing, greeting the author on
the day of the visit, and giving a quick tour of necessary facilities.  The primary responsibility of
the school is to encourage book sales by getting students excited about the visit.  See the Tips
for Success page for more information.

What is the author's responsibility?
Unlike many authors, I bring most of my own equipment and supplies.  The school will not be
asked to provide any equipment other than a screen, an A/V cart, and a table for book signing.
I do request that these items be set up prior to my arrival.  I will provide an educational, and
entertaining presentation.  Each student who orders a book will received a copy signed by me
on the day of the presentation.  I will provide a complimentary, signed copy of the book to the
poster contest winner(s).

What is the format of the presentation?
The visit will consist of a 35-40 minute interactive presentation with the author followed by an
autograph session.  If students have participated in the poster contest, a winner(s) is also
chosen.  I believe the visit is better for everyone when students are excited about the visit, and
participate in the presentation.  The visit is designed for Kindergarten - 4th grade, but can be
modified for younger and older children.  I will do up to four presentations (minimum of 100
students), but please try to combine grades as this allows more time for a better assembly.  A
lot of time is wasted moving children to and from the assembly.
